HOW TO VECTORIZE YOUR PROCREATE DRAWING IN ILLUSTRATOR
Let’s talk about how to vectorize your Procreate drawing in Illustrator!
If you are here, it’s because you probably made something really cool on Procreate, and wish to turn it into vector-based art!
I don’t blame you! I love to use procreate to draw some nice icons for diverse design projects.
But, I love Vector design more than Raster ones.
Why? Because I want my clients to be able to scale as many times as they want their new designs.
Alright, let’s dive right into how to vectorize your Procreate drawing in Illustrator?
1- FIRST STEP ON PROCREATE
So, you’ve to start by saving your Procreate drawing!
What I like to do for my portraits is to delete the background!Â
Usually, because I use only one part of a drawing to add to a logo.
But, you can totally vectorize your entire masterpiece!
So, go to “share image” and save in PNG!
You can save the file on your directly on your computer or add it later.Â
It’s up to you, as long as it’s on your computer at some point.
Now, let’s get into Adobe Illustrator.
2- LAST STEP ON ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR
Alright, your awesome drawing is now saved somewhere on your computer.
So, open Adobe Illustrator.
Now, create a new document and select the size of your artwork.
For this example, I choose 1080px by 1080px, and used RGB colors.
Note that, if your art is for print, you want to select CMYK colors.
What's NEXT?
So, import your saved Procreate drawing in Illustrator.
You can drag and drop or go to “file” and select “place”.
Once your drawing is on the artboard, go to the properties panel and scroll until you see the quick actions.
Now, click on “Embed”(Make sure your drawing is selected)
THE LAST STEP!
Now, the real work starts!
So, on the quick actions in the properties panel, you will see “image trace”.
After selecting your drawing, click on it!
From there, choose the setting you think will fit best with your drawing.
I always go with “high fidelity photo”

So, depending on how fast your computer is. Illustrator will take some time to analyze and do the job!
Once this is done, click on “Expand”.Â
And TADA. Now that your drawing is expanded, you can ungroup it and work on every single detail.
You can zoom in and out without losing resolutions!
